I just received an e-mail from someone saying, "Okay, well, without further adieu, here it is!"

Now, far be it from me to be the elitist that Josh is when it comes to the English language. But for the betterment of society, I must ask that you refrain from ever using that phrase again.

"Adieu" is from French and means "goodbye." "Ado" means "fuss," "trouble," or "bother."

Makes sense now, doesn't it? "Without further fuss or bother, here it is!" And this makes little sense, no? "Without further goodbye, here it is!"

Rewriting the sentences using the definitions, you just look like a moron, don't you? But you're not. Of course you're not.
